Anxiety and panic attacks: understanding your experience

Anxiety may feel like worry and tension. A panic attack can involve sudden intense fear and physical sensations such as a racing heart or difficulty breathing. These descriptions cannot diagnose you: similar symptoms can occur with other conditions.

If symptoms are new, severe or raise concern about your health, do not automatically dismiss them as anxiety; appropriate medical assessment is needed. For immediate danger, contact local emergency services.

What we can discuss in a consultation

How the experience affects your life, the situations that feel difficult and what you want from support. The appropriate format and whether another professional should be involved are discussed individually. You do not need to wait for a specified number of attacks before asking about help.
